Five Domains Animal Welfare Assessment

DESCRIPTION
The ZAA Accreditation Welfare Assessment Tool (WAT) is a key asset of the ZAA Accreditation Program. It has been applied consistently across all member site reviews approximately 1500 times (and counting) over the last 5 years.

This has allowed us to further develop our understanding in how to interpret the Five Domains Model and apply it in practice.

This workshop aims to refresh the understanding and intent of the WAT's criteria and measures.

ZAA Animal Visitor Interactive Position Statement 2.0

DESCRIPTION
Modern zoos and aquariums play an essential role in conservation and are uniquely placed to create deep, personal connections between people and nature.

Studies have shown that animal visitor interactions contribute to an increase in pro-conservation behaviours in people and enhance conservation education.

Based on input from the ZAA membership, the WAZA AVI Guidelines, and Community Perception Research data, the ZAA Animal Visitor Interactive Position Statement 2.0 provides guidance on AVI design, responsible photography and other important elements for hosting animal encounters at your zoo or aquarium.
