2021 Australian Tourism Award winners announced!

ZAA-accredited zoos have been showcasing their excellence as finalists in several categories at the Australian Tourism Awards which are the industries peak awards recognising and promoting excellence in tourism. The finalists and winners were announced Friday March 18 at the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre Queensland.

In the Major Tourist attraction category Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (QLD) was awarded with silver.

General Manager, Michael Kelly expressed “This is a huge honour for Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, after a challenging couple of years. Our team continues to work tirelessly to produce an amazing and iconic Gold Coast experience, while also working towards Conservation and Education. We look forward to the next few years and welcoming back tourists from all over the World”. 

Taronga Western Plains Zoo (NSW) was also a finalist, being awarded with bronze.  

Taronga Western Plains Zoo Director, Steve Hinks stating “Being named a finalist after the challenges and triumphs of 2020-21 is a real testament to our team and their resilience and dedication through drought, bushfires, a mouse plague and a pandemic.”

In the Tourist attraction category Oakvale Wildlife Park (NSW) was awarded with bronze. 

Kent & Leanne Sansom, Owners of Oakvale Wildlife Park were elated to accept the award. “It was such a special moment for us and the team, we are so honoured to receive this award, to be recognised at this level is a wonderful achievement. It was such a blessing to be able to celebrate in a room full of amazing tourism operators from around Australia.”

Adelaide Zoo also won the 2021 South Australia major tourist attraction award for the third time earning them a place in the hall of fame. Adelaide Zoo was also thrilled to receive silver in the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category, while Monarto Safari Park picked up silver in the Tourist Attraction category.
