We are looking for an Assistant Wildlife Team Leader to join our team, who can share their passion for wildlife and ensure the smooth day to day operations of our wildlife operations. Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome is a unique tourism experience in the heart of the Cairns CBD in Tropical North Queensland. We are an accredited member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) participating in several ASMP breeding programs and are home to a wide range of iconic Australian birds, reptiles and mammals.
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong interpersonal leadership skills and lead by example in managing a small team to deliver our guests a truly unforgettable experience with our native animals. This is a part time position of approx. 30 hours which may include weekends and public holidays and on the Team Leader’s days off you will lead the wildlife department.
We are seeking someone with a sound knowledge in all aspects of animal husbandry, particularly with Australian wildlife. Experience in a commercial captive animal environment is essential and previous experience with birds and/or reptiles is advantageous. We are seeking an experienced and committed hands-on wildlife professional who will strive to maintain and improve the high level of professionalism and excellence of our customers’ experience from our dedicated wildlife team. Your excellent customer service skills and passion for our native fauna will ensure customers experience an unforgettable visit.
• Relevant experience as an animal professional with native Australian wildlife and 3-5 years of experience
• Excellent Animal interpretation skills
• Experience delivering high quality educational talks to guests of different ages and backgrounds in a variety of different formats, such as tours, school talks and large presentations
• Certificate III in Captive Animals or higher (highly desirable)
• Previous supervisory experience is preferred
• Local flora and fauna knowledge
• Manual drivers licence preferred
