About the Role

We currently have one jellytastic opportunity within our Curatorial team, as a full-time permanent Aquarist!

This role will be primarily working in our jellyfish exhibition “Ocean Invaders” creating mesmerising displays of gelatinous sea creatures and working in our Jelly Lab to nurture and grow them. Additionally, this position will be managing the day-to-day operation of the exhibit and the lab.

This further involves:

  • The culture and husbandry of a variety of jellyfish species.
  • Developing culture techniques for new species.
  • Ensuring high levels of animal husbandry and welfare at all times.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and biosecurity throughout the facility.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of the exhibits, lighting and interactives.
  • Assist in the routine maintenance of Life Support Systems 
  • Educating and engaging our visitors through delivering talks and social media content
  • Onsite diving when required

Please note that this position follow a three week rotating roster where you will be required to work weekends.

About You

Do you:

  • Hold a relevant biological science qualification or have demonstrated equivalent experience within this field?
  • Do you have experience working with micro algae or aquatic invertebrates?
  • Do you have experience working with marine aquaria?
  • Have current diving qualifications?
  • Have experience in a laboratory setting?

The above coupled with your passion for marine animals and your commitment to ensuring clean, amazing exhibits and exercise best practice animal husbandry while delivering an amazing guest experience is exactly what we are looking for. Experience working with Jellyfish, planktonic organisms or in a laboratory would be an advantage.

You are an exceptional communicator, are solution focused, and are able to use your experience to work well in a successful and collaborative team. You have a flexible and adaptable approach along with high attention to detail and demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills.
