Auckland Zoo’s orangutans and siamangs are truly living the high life thanks to the completion of the expansive network of aerial pathways in their new high canopy habitat. Spanning over 2km of three-tiered vine-like ropes, the residents can now climb up to 25m high and over the zoo’s lake.
The complex high canopy habitat is part of Auckland Zoo’s South East Asia Jungle Track development, the biggest project in its 98-year history. Other habitats under construction include ‘Lowlands’ for Sumatran tigers and Asian small-clawed otters, and an Indonesian Swamp Forest—created within a climate-controlled tropical dome for Sunda gharial crocodiles, fish, and other reptile species.
Monarto Safari Park is excited to announce the construction of a new, state-of-the-art visitor centre! Monarto Safari Park is now the largest safari park outside of Africa and will be essential in the fight to save species from extinction, housing assurance populations, and breeding programs. They are on target to complete the project by February 2022 but are hoping to complete it by Christmas of this year.
