Reporting to: Head Keeper – Mammals and Birds
Position Purpose: The Reptile Park is looking for an experienced and motivated person to join our Mammal department!
The successful applicant will provide support to the Head of Section - Mammals and Birds including duties such as providing a high standard of husbandry and care of the mammal and bird collection, exhibit maintenance and design, behavioral enrichment programs, customer service, and public presentations. The successful applicant will be a strong team player, with the ability to follow instruction easily and without supervision. Major roles will involve animal care and husbandry of the collection, customer service and public presentations, browse and koala leaf collection, and volunteer development.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with some Australia’s most unique animals and cutting edge conservation projects including a variety of Bird species, Platypus, Wombats, Koalas, and be part of one of Australia’s largest Tasmanian Devil breeding facilities.
Essential criteria
• Current Manual Class C driver’s license
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Physically Fit with an ability to carry out manual handling activities, enthusiastic and hardworking
Desirable criteria
• Operating woodchipper experience
• Previous arboriculture experience
• Tree-pruning experience
• Knowledge of Australian native flora (especially Eucalyptus sp.)
