National Zoo and Aquarium

The National Zoo and Aquarium is currently looking for veterinarians to be part of the veterinary Locum pool. The successful candidates will be experienced and passionate about being a part of a small collaborative team in a challenging, unpredictable environment. This position will require the successful candidate to be flexible, knowledgeable and confident in providing care to many different species of animal in the collection. This position would suit a vet who already has a part time or flexible job and would like to also work some days at the zoo.

The National Zoo and Aquarium and the luxury hotel it accommodates, Jamala Wildlife Lodge, is one of the most highly regarded and awarded zoos in Australia. Privately owned, the zoo and aquarium houses 90+ species and participates in conservation programs domestically and internationally. 
The current veterinary hospital is well equipped with diagnostic tools, laboratory, surgery and treatment rooms. There is also an international quarantine facility attached to the clinic.

What we are looking for:
You will ideally have a minimum of 3 years of veterinary experience in zoo, exotics or wildlife practice, mixed practice, emergency practice or specialist practice
BVSc. Continuing education in exotics/wildlife/zoo.
You will have a strong desire to learn, develop and to continue to grow within the team
You will have a passion for providing high end care to exotic zoo species.
You will work well under pressure in unfamiliar situations and in emergency situations.
You are happy to work independently or in a team.

Locum holiday work available when regular vets on leave.  One week day per fortnight and the occasional weekend work if necessary.
Renumeration commensurate with experience
