Wildlife Operations Manager

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a popular local and international tourist destination in Christchurch.  Holding a variety of species from farm animals, zoo/exotic animals and native species, we are a place to get up-close and interact with animals, wherever possible.

We are looking to expand our team with a new role being introduced as Wildlife Operations Manager.

This role will be hands-on with the animals, and working alongside the staff.  We are looking for someone with experience in managing people, but also knows enough about animals and the zoo industry to feel comfortable in their knowledge.

As a manager, we would like someone who shows excellent leadership, builds excellent relationships with people and develops a strong sense of team.  Willowbank is a family-owned business, and keeping the values of family, is highly important.

As a keeper, we want someone who has ideally been in the zoo industry and understands the importance of welfare and industry standards.  We understand that no one is an expert in all animals, but coming with some knowledge and experience would be preferable.

With this role, will come a lot of administration.  Managing staff rosters, meetings, performance and KPIs.  Ideally, a knowledge of MPI and DOC requirements is important, as well as other industry requirements such as ZAA accreditation.

Applicants must:
- have zoo industry experience.
- have staff management experience.
