Australia's Wildlife is in danger!

Australia is facing the world's worst mammal extinction!

3 billion animals were killed or affected as a result of the 2019/2020 Black Summer Bushfires.

Help us to secure a future for Australia's iconic wildlife!

Modern Zoos act for Conservation

As a peak body, the Zoo & Aquarium Association (ZAA) represents the voices of 100 zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries and wildlife parks across Australasia that operate to the highest standards.

ZAA members play an active and critical role in the long term protection efforts of threatened species through:

  • Rescue and rehabilitation of injured wildlife
  • Conservation breeding and breed for release programs
  • Species education and public advocacy messaging via ambassador animals
  • Research into threats and disease of threatened species
  • Field work such as population tracking, habitat analysis and disease management

Each year, ZAA members connect 22 million visitors with nature, educate 1.1 million students about wildlife, support over 600 conservation programs and contribute over $23 million to conservation action.

The ZAA Centre for Species Survival

The ZAA Centre for Species Survival (CSS) Australasia is a partnership between the International Union for the Conservation of Nature - Species Survival Commission (IUCN-SSC) and ZAA.

The Centre is made up of a high performing team of scientists, brought together to assess the extinction risk of Australian threatened species and build strategies to maximise positive impact for long-term recovery of threatened native species.

This work is funded through ZAA's charitable arm, the Wildlife Conservation Fund.

The ZAA CSS has been working with the Federal Government, First Nations Organisations and key stakeholders on vital conservation assessment and planning to secure a future for priority native species.

Help us to save Australia's iconic species

The CSS Australasia is currently funded through the successful application of a grant directed towards the recovery of species affected by the 2019/20 Black Summer Bushfires. This funding will become depleted in December 2023. We are seeking urgent funding to support the critical work undertaken by the Centre for additional Australian native species whilst also finalising the vital work in progress on the species assessed to date.

Government endorsed threatened species assessments enables formal species conservation action to start.

Supporting the ZAA CSS is a catalyst to drive conservation action and to help save Australia's threatened animals.

The Wildlife Conservation Fund is a registered charity, donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

All donors will be recognised on our website for your contribution to securing a future for Australia's native species.
